December 7 – 8, 2020
Our last trip of 2019 was to our favorite Gulfstream Scout campground, Camp Oklawaha. Located up in Sebastian, Florida, it takes us about 1 1/2 hours to drive there from Spanish River Church.
This is our chance to give back to Gulfstream Council by doing a service project for the camp. In prior years, we have helped them clear forest trails and new camping sites. This year, we cleared out the overgrowth and reeds in their lake used for swimming. The scouts also earn service hours toward rank.
Once the project was completed, most of the scouts joined Mr. Swann and Mr. Wertheimer on a canoe trip down the Oklawaha River which always includes some canoe tipping and unscheduled swimming. Camp Oklawaha is a trip designed to help scouts work on rank and merit badge requirements. The older scouts help the younger scouts work on fire building, cooking, knot tying, and other scout skills.
